Check ball position of Toyota/Aisin automatic transmissions

Check ball position of Toyota/Aisin automatic transmissions

During valve body removal in Aisin transmissions, the check ball could easily fall off and where it falls from is sometimes a challenge to technicians. The picture attached serves as a sample since the check ball position looks identical in many Aisin transmissions.
Securing the check ball and the check ball spring in place before putting the valve body in place can be challenging too.

Follow below steps to put the check ball and spring in place easily:

Wipe the position where the check ball and spring should stay off with a clean dry cloth. This will remove oil that can prevent the petroleum jelly from sticking with the transmission casing
Use petroleum jelly to hold the check ball in place before putting the valve body.

Then gently put the ..

Dangers of overused engine air filter that has become flaky

Dangers of overused engine air filter that has become flaky

I have seen cars with very old and overused air filters. These air filters are so bad that they are not only blocked but have become flaky. The air filter begins to disintegrate on its own and the particles find their way into the combustion chamber.
The photo that is attached is a photo of an engine air filter that has been left unchanged, blocked, has become flaky and has started disintegrating.
Apart from parts of the air filter posing a risk to the engine, it can also allow other foreign materials to gain access to the engine.
A good preventive maintenance practice is to change the engine's air filter regularly.
Other benefits of changing the engine's are filter periodically are;

Reduced contamination of the engine oil as less dust particles will find their way into ..

When you should change engine air filter earlier than recommended

When you should change engine air filter earlier than recommended

The engine air filter is one preventive maintenance item that is often overlooked. There are two air filters in a typical car; the engine air filter and the cabin air filter. In this article, we are going to be focusing on the engine air filter.
The engine air filter is responsible for filtering the intake air to prevent dust and other debris from gaining access to the engine.
In environments where the presence of dust is minimal, users skip air filter replacement without any adverse effect. Sometimes, they simply blow away the dust that has accumulated on the filter using compressed air. This should not be a regular practice though because at a point, the air filter should still need replacement.
In environments that are very dusty, it is beneficial to replace the air filter earl..

Effects of cooling system thermostat removal in hot climate

Effects of cooling system thermostat removal in hot climate

There is a myth that is quite popular in some countries with hot climate, even among mechanics; "cooling system's thermostat is not needed in the car".
This believe is not necessarily true even though the importance of the thermostat is not as much as it is in a car in a cold climate.
Some of the effects of thermostat delete;
The engine does not warm up on time. One function of the thermostat is preventing the coolant from circulation until the engine has attained a particular temperature. When the thermostat is not in place, the coolant begins to circulate right from the moment the engine is started. This extends the time the engine takes to attain operating temperature. The cooler the ambient temperature, the more time it will take to attain operating temperature.
T..
